Adsense - There Should be a Test
As an Adwords user I often find myself frustrated when reading in a lot of the webmaster forums. I'm frustrated at the fact that Google seems to allow anyone and everyone get an Adsense account - regardless of their understanding of the program.
I'm shocked at how many Adsense publishers appear to not even understand where the $ they get for publishing Adsense comes from. Half the time I swear some people think Google just has a giant pile of $ laying around they pay people with. It's like they don't even know the advertisers exist.
I for one think it's time that Google and the other players in the PPC market try and implement a test of some sorts before they allow you to activate an account. I think a test of some kind could eliminate a lot of the morons right from the start. The Adsense test wouldn't have to be complicated - just some basic, simple questions that would quickly disqualify people who really didn't know anything about the program. Stuff like...
1) Explain how Adsense and Adwords rely on each other to work.
2) Name 3 things that can get your Adsense account shut down.
3) Is clicking on your own ads to make sure they system is working an acceptable practice?
4) Can you use text like "click on these ads" above your Adsense?
You get the point...nothing all that complicated. Taking the idea a step further I'd almost like to see Google require that an individual or company runs and Adwords account and spends X before they are allowed to open an Adsense account.
I understand that implementing any of these ideas would only impede Adsense sign ups and Google's revenue...but at some point I think it's a problem that will need to be addressed. If anything causes Google to lose favor with large Adwords users it will be the content network...
