Sandbox - A Good Thing?
Is Google's "sandbox" a good thing?
A recent thread at WebProWorld poses that question. My personal opinion is that the sandbox could be viewed as a tool Google uses to force new sites into using Adwords if they want decent placement in Google's search results. Others think the sandbox is a good way for a site to "prove itself".
It's kind of catch 22. A lot of sites can't afford to stay online indefinatley if they don't make some revenue…but it's hard to make any revenue if you don't have any traffic. Considering a substantial portion of most website's traffic comes from the search engines it's tough to make money without them.
Maybe instead of sandbox we should call it Google's "YouHaveToPayToPlay" box. Pay us for Adwords, or simply keep paying for a site that doesn’t make any money because we won't send it any traffic.
I'm sure there will be lots of varying opinions on this one.
